For confident harmony singers looking for their next choir.

We’re a focused ensemble looking for confident harmony singers who can read music and/or are excellent memorisers, and who’ve sung in groups before. If that sounds like you, the best way in is to come along to an open rehearsal and see if we’re the right fit.

We rehearse Thursday evenings near Preston Park Station. We hold occasional open rehearsals but are happy for new singers to come along at any time.

We understand that lives can be busy and unpredictable, so we keep thing flexible in return for our members’ commitment to attend as many rehearsals as they can. We know our singers often take part in other concerts too, and sometimes life just clashes with rehearsal. What matters is having enough of us there overall to rehearse well, with room for everyone’s other commitments.

What it costs

Members pay an annual fee of £360, paid by term (£120) or via a monthly standing order (£30). Fees cover the costs of our Musical Director, rehearsal venue, sheet music, concert, website and accompanist costs. New joiners make a one-off payment for the term, then join the standing order from the start of the following term if they would like to stay on as full members.

Come to an open rehearsal

Prospective members are welcome to come along to a rehearsal by arrangement to see what we're all about. We organise a number of open rehearsals each year to meet new singers and welcome back old friends. Details of the next open rehearsals are below.

Thinking of joining?

Do I need to audition?
No — come to an open rehearsal, have a sing, see how it feels.
Do I need to read music?
This is an interesting question! Of course being able to sight-read is a useful skill to bring to rehearsals, but being able to learn, memorise, internalise and blend your line is what's really important. We supply sheet music and YOURACCOMPANIST practice tracks to help, so if memorising is more your method that's entirely up to you. Your dedication to learning your line is far more  important than musical training. You should know after a rehearsal or two whether or not you'll be able to do this. Most experienced choral singers know their preferences and skills levels and can judge the fit for themselves.
Do I need any experience?
Rebelles is a relatively small ensemble, so might not be suitable as a first choir experience, unless you've got relevant musical training, a background in singing or some experience singing on stage with other people. We don't have hard and fast rules about it, if you
- love singing and can sing in tune
- can hold your nerve in a complex harmony
- would like to take part in concerts and
- can dedicate time outside rehearsals to learning your part...

We won't turn you away because you don't specifically have small group ensemble experience.
When and where do you rehearse?
Thursday evenings at The Modern Funeral, by Preston Park station in Brighton. Rehearsal start at 8pm, to take advantage of the free on-street parking - and last for 1.5 hours.
How much does it cost?
Currently £30 a month for regular members — we work to keep it there by putting some concert and workshop proceeds back in.
What do you sing?
A real mix — folk, pop, soul and songs from the shows, with the odd classical piece.
How do I join?
